Depending on where you're putting this, the MDF board shelving could pose an issue - I'd be cautious about somewhere like a garage or damp basement where there's a possibility of it being excessively humid or wet. A similar shelving system with MDF boards in the non-climate-controlled garage at my last house ended up with all the shelves sagging/bowing just from being in SW PA's warm and humid weather conditions.

Agreed, but it would still be worth it even replacing the shelves in the future.
The interlocking system is what worries me the most. I don't see why something like this wouldn't have dedicated hardware?

I bought the same shelves on FB marketplace (used) and they're great. Very strong once the boards are in and no wobble. I recommend.

Edit: Disregard - was able to add to the cart and purchase a second time using the same code.

I seal and paint my boards to keep them from swelling due to any water/liquid.

What would one replace the shelves with?

if you have a basement pile of random 2x lumber that you could cut to fit, that would probably work great, or as mentioned above a high quality primer/paint and/or some kind of sealant would probably go a long way - in hindsight that could have saved mine if applied on install before it got janky
