Read the unlock policy on the Tracfone website for the actual policy.
Customers have been getting phones unlocked for years (if they meet the unlock requirements). Renewing service has nothing to do with unlock since this has a year included and unlock is 60 days of service. HSN is just a retailer like Walmart, their service reps often don't know the specifics of the products.

Also, I don't use mine much away from WiFi, & until recently, i was able to get all the extra data & texts i needed through their rewards system for free (doing monthly things that took <5 mins a month). Sadly, it was recently neutered heavily, so now we can only get like 30 rewards points every month (it takes 500 for 1k texts, or 1k for 2 or 3GB of data). In the past, I got like 140 points every month.
The Samsung model has better features and response.
I want to give this to a teenager for Christmas.

I have used the tracfone yearly plans, such as this, for several years. I don't talk much on the phone, and don't use it online, much. There have been a couple of times I have had to add minutes, or texts, to make to the end of the year.
Is anyone who was able to get their phone unlocked?
