I'm not disagreeing that this is a thing, but I personally have a spidey-sense for some vaguely impressive-sounding brand name being licensed into oblivion to sell me complete garbage at a markup - if that name ever even existed in the first place.

"Made in China" is part of this heuristic, but it's not China's fault - it's whoever is profiting off slashing that last penny of manufacturing and QC costs. Which is generally an American corporation that laid off their workforce, cancelled their pension plan, and gave their CEO a huge golden parachute post-1999, but I suppose it would be racist to not let Europe play along too. Jack Welch who?

In any event, stamping carbon steel is not a huge technological hurdle, coming from the people who brought you the wok.

I'm gonna get downvoted to hell but it's purely just racism/nationalism. People will complain about Chinese steel and this and that but this is a 150 year old company with a reputation to uphold and they have the final ownership over the quality.

Someone on SD will always find an excuse to pop into a thread to whisper "...China" and it's almost never relevant, other than the fact that you're saving money.

Edit: misspelling

Good price on a well regarded German brand - but, this one is made in China. Still a good price.

Nice price, on par in price and looks with a similar 10" carbon steel at the big restaurant supply store near me, which I use. Probably use it 8/10 times over an equivalent sized cast iron since getting them.

Pretty good price if you use the Amex 15 off. $11.68 total.

I will keep waiting for the 12" one to go on sale. 10" is just too small for my need.

Yes, same concept as cast iron. They just heat up faster and lose heat faster than cast iron.

Too bad it is made in China. I have a few MS pans and they are great but all made in Germany.

Sorry not knowledgeable but this has no coating? Surface looks so smooth. Is it any more corrosion resistant (somewhat?) than cast iron since it's steel, even if it isn't stainless?

Have this in the 12 inch version and love it. Great for searing, room for big steaks.

It comes with a reasonable factory seasoning. You can use soap with it (and you can on cast iron too).

It's the same company that makes the Victorinox pocket Swiss army knife. Wink
