7420 = soldered ram, so plan accordingly (i.e., avoid 8GB).
Sadly, this batch has no 32GB options.

Loads of great threads on the 7420 in the forums. Some key points:

This laptop is supported for an automatic upgrade to Windows 11.
RAM and the Wi-Fi adapter are soldered. The M.2 SSD can be upgraded.

Skip the 8GB model unless you have a very specific (potentially non-Windows?) application for which this will remain sufficient.

Don't worry about the CPU model.

The i5- and i7-branded 11th generation G-series mobile CPUs model performance differences are marginal to non-existent to negative depending upon your application.

The carbon fiber lid is scratch prone.
The 7420 has a USB-C port on both sides.
Good luck!

I would look at the previous latitude 7420 threads on here. Some people had good experiences while others have not. This is a 4 year old used laptop and some problems will eventually come up. One of the most liked comments mentioned the 7420 is notorious for failing 😂

Touchscreen is an option for which you can filter in Features. Otherwise, be advised that only 3 of the 9 available configurations available for now are equipped with a touchscreen option.

Good luck!

More accurately, this is a four (4) year old platform. But perhaps you could clarify your point?

Windows 10 is EOL in Oct. Can this run Windows 11?

Edit: it looks like it could

I was going to point to the graphics EUs, but now I see the i5-1145G7 has 80 (out of 96) which should perform virtually the same.

As an aside, it's a shame that newer Intel microarchitectures (Meteor Lake, Arrow Lake) have nerfed the graphics performance of "U-class" processors, which now have half the graphics cores of "H-class".

Is it common to get a laptop from them with the prosupport + still intact?

Latitude series used to be good for upgradability,(RAM and SDD) but now they solder the RAM, which is a huge drawback.

I just bought a new Pro Max Premium (old name was precision). Going from 16GB to 32GB cost me a over $200 (for an extra 16GB) but it's not upgradable, so I had no choice.

Nope, no profit in that deal...Nope. None. Sorry. Nothing to see here. Just move on...
