I see comments like this a lot. Are there news reports of fires starting due to faulty chargers? Does anyone have experience with a charger actually catching on fire or starting a fire (I'm not asking if the charger got warm, I'm asking about an actual fire)? I didn't see any comments in the feedback about fires.

Amazon's review system says this is a frequently returned item. But I'm not sure about that as it also says that it's the "#1 New Release" so who knows. Sometimes Amazon conflates variations of an item and that really skews the reviews.

I looked through the reviews and they seemed alright, so I snagged one. It is GaN so that makes a big difference in heat production. I have other Baseus power adapters and such that have been fine.

I have I think 4 of these by now and they are EXCELLENT devices in my opinion. They frequently go on sale for around this price. I also have cables that show the wattage on the cable and can tell you I have seen this charge a laptop at over 60 watts indicated. I haven't seen 100 watts but I also don't think that I have a laptop that would charge at that wattage anyway. These appear to be excellent units from my experience. Zero fires so far.

Edited to say: I never post on here (I have apparently 11 posts since setting up an account in Dec. 2007, and I didn't even set up an account for years and years), and I posted about this. If you're on the fence, you should probably pull the trigger. If you're not, that's cool too.

I got one of these the last time it was on sale. I was visualizing something with similar dimensions to Anker's latest product of the same specs, which is very small, but this is about twice as big. It's still small enough to be convenient.
Though, I've heard that the Anker I'm comparing it to has problems overheating, so maybe it's better that it isn't as small as possible. That said, I personally haven't had any overheating / performance issues with either this or the much-smaller Anker.

Fair warning 1: all these 100W and 65W PD chargers only output their maximum Wattage at 20V (most laptops). So if you need lower Voltage, say 15V (e.g. Microsoft Surface Pros and Surface Laptops), all of these chargers only output 45W at 15V, because that's what the PD standard calls for. So if you buy a 65W or 100W charger, you'll only carry more weight for no benefit.

It gets even worse than that:

Fair warning 2: reportedly on many airplanes that have 110/220V seat power outlets, only chargers up to 65W work. 100W chargers won't charge at all, at any Wattage.

So for many (most?) people, a lower wattage is the right choice (and those chargers are lighter and cheaper).
