If it's used as it's intended, it doesn't overheat. I ride mountain bike trails with the GoPro mounted on my chest. It's recording at its max resolution for hours (multiple batteries back to back) in the middle of Georgia summers. Never had the camera overheat.

I got the deal last time it was front page. Used to get 10 hrs+ of footage hiking in redwoods national Forest and driving along NorCal. This works fine, just make sure you are home when it arrives

It's an option. Use it, or don't. Options are nice. It let's you do optional things. If you're swimming underwater, this isn't a good option. If you're mounting it to your car, it's a nice option. Unless it rains. Then it's a bad option. Unless you shield the cable from water. Then it becomes a more viable option. Optionally of course.

You can't record anything after the fact. Image clarity depends on how much you want to zoom and how much light you have.

Over time you learn how to keep it from overheating. Don't have a side covered (have it attached to something so it's suspended in mid air somehow), and then it's also more likely to overheat with more demanding processes like on settings where it captures at higher frame rates. On normal video capture setting without any sides covered, it can run for a full hour without overheating
