Agreed, I believe this we got this model, it held up fairly well for my daughter despite being thrown around in a a schoolbag.
I believe no backlit KB though? But for the price...
Mine had a backlit keyboard I think?

Missed the $100 laptop...got this 2 or 3 years ago from Walmart for $280 and it has been solid. Only shortcoming is that SSD are SATA and not NVME.
Congrats to those that snagged one.

FYI: If you order through the Woot app today only (Aug. 16, 2025), it knocks off another 10% off the price at checkout. Hope this helps some folks.

I previously bought two of these about 3 years ago, one refurb for about $300 and another new from Walmart for $250 but it was the Core-i5 version but that came with 16gb and 512ssd. These are the same chassis. Good for the price but, the screen is super washed, dim, trackpad is awful and keyboard is not good either. Also, I am not sure about the Ryzen version, but both of mine had boot-loop issues with Windows that needed a usb recovery install and complete wipe - I suspect that is the reason for the massive amount of refurbs due to people returning them. My wife still uses hers. I was using the other in the office running two monitors, and it can run with the lid closed - but - the heat buildup caused the trackpad to warp and unseat so its basically a desktop now.
Your track pad that unseated is probably due to the battery swelling. That is what happened to mine (same model) after 4 years of being plugged in. It is easy to find a replacement battery on eBay and replace it. It is not safe to use a laptop with a swollen battery. mine is as good as new after replacing the battery which cost less than $40.

I don't know if that was an insult or a compliment but when 3/4 of the comments here are talking about terrible gateway build quality, you could find a previously refurbished business class laptop that's way better that's probably been dropped 10 times and is in better condition and will probably last 15 years of further abuse no problem
Compliment, I scored a Dell with better specs for $130 shipped.

I got a gateway for 200. One day it suddenly would not power on. Took it to a computer repair shop. Just to open this cost me 150. And another 250+ was asked to replace the motherboard.I took it home and dumped it into garbage.
