That much of a difference over the 990 Evo Plus or 990 Pro? MC has them for $115 and $150 after discounts, respectively. Just wondering if the 9100 Pro would make significant improvements to a new system...

If you're constantly writing large files to the drive then you'll save 50% of the time which would make it worth it when time is money (for example, video editing). If you're just using your computer the way most people do, you won't notice a difference. You won't notice in gaming either unless you're constantly writing large games to the drive.

Agreed. I got a 990 pro the other year to replace a budget m.2 drive. You cant notice a difference at all. Nothing. Save your money or buy something that will make a difference.

This is true if your system takes Gen 5 Performance drives. This is pretty much limited to laptops in the last year or so, and do consider the incremental heat (this is real) created by your new SSD.

I was mostly speaking in the context of desktops (should have stated that) which most built within the past two years or so would support these speeds (assuming sufficient PCIe lanes) but agree that laptops will be hit or miss.
