This controller is actually better than the pc engine mini controller because it offers the turbo buttons. The turbo grafx-16 mini model does come with a turbo mode option. Weird design choice by konami.

Less interested in this controller, more interested in the fact that these systems have been released. They are pricey and otherwise easily emulated which makes it difficult to justify the price on these new mini systems.

These mini systems are hardly new, the PC engine mini for instance came out over 5 years ago and has long since gone out of print. I didn't mind most of them (PS1 mini was kind of crap), they were good for people who wanted a quick burst of nostalgia and also have a nice little display piece in their collection.

the ps1 mini is the only one I bought. $20 for 2 ps1 usb controllers? how could you pass that up.

Having not had a TG16 as a kid, nor having encountered anyone else who did, I have to say I'm really impressed with the games when I play them today. You can't call it nostalgia when you never encountered them the first time around - they're just fun and pleasant to see and hear. I enjoy the graphics and music of the TG16 more than the NES/SNES/Genesis games I encountered for myself in the 80s/90s. Maybe it's mote enjoyable because it's new-to-me - like discovering a grunge-era artist 30 years later that you didn't experience at the time. It's old and fresh simultaneously. That's the itch I like to scratch - and TG16 does that for me.

The original pc engine controller is not great to begin with. Don't know how you can make that worse

I still have my original. Shame it didn't take off in the US-- got their asses handed to them by big N and S.

Huge upside was the full-size games were playable on the portable "gameboy" TG16-- the TG Express. Like most gameboy-competing handhelds, the battery life was abysmal and the cost was unaffordable, so again, got asshanded.

Huge downside means you carried your whole game library with you because they were the size of credit cards, and you can guess where that story ended.

I like the idea of these throwback controllers in a multi-system emulator scenario, but I'm not sure if it is feasible to have multiple (this, genesis, etc) connected to one system and swap depending on what game you select.

My brother is a collector and has all the notable minis hooked up to a CRT with an HDMI splitter device to enable more convenient switching between consoles. It's a bit overboard for the average person, but if you're willing to commit an entire room of a house to being a video game museum, it works ok.
