It's always calculated as the total price of buying ever individual episode by itself. There are 97 episodes at $3/each so it adds up. Season bundles are a better price going from $5-20 depending on the show. And bundles of the seasons have further discounts.

Definitely a shame Apple is SD - for these older shows hoping for a free upgrade to HD seems like too much of a risk.
