Also, and this has nothing to do with the drive itself, I am super leery of buying something like this on Amazon because of the way they manage their inventory. The commingling of stock with third party makes it very easy for scammers to sell counterfeit items.
You're right. Just a quick glance at the site and ordering by write speed shows 256GB drives with MUCH faster write speeds for $30 or under. I move around big video files a lot and having a write speed of 500mb/s or so makes a huge difference vs. the paltry 110 of this drive.

Instead of a drive like this, a suggestion I got from someone else was to grab a small NVMe drive (2230) and a small enclosure. There are tons of used 128 (~$7) and 256 (~$15) GB 2230 drives on eBay. Smaller 2230-only enclosures are around $15-$20 new. And for $5-$10 more, you may be able find options that rugged for drops and water.
Small USB thumb drives are often disappointing when dealing with large file sizes or quantities. And they are prone to thermal throttling. This is an alternative I'm assuming many hadn't thought of.
(This isn't arguing against the deal in this thread. Drives like this Samsung one are inexpensive and much smaller.)

I have about 70GB of music on my Mac Mini, and I need to free up some local hard drive space. Would this be a good way to store the music files, or am I better off with a dedicated SSD?

For music, this is fine. A bit slow for regular big file transfers, but fine otherwise.

Probably better with a dedicated SSD drive. I have a 1TB SSD connected to my mac mini, I keep all my 'crap' on it.
