So just to add a bit more clarification, minerals need to be bound "chelated" with other organic molecules such as amino acids in order to be more absorbable to the body. In this case, the magnesium is bound to glycine. So one capsule is 500mg with 90mg being actual magnesium so the rest (410mg) ends up being glycine. So this could have another positive feature of allowing someone to increase their glycine intake if taking multiple capsules per day. Glycine can have wide ranging benefits from being anti inflammatory to also benefiting sleep quality and promoting relaxation/gaba increase.

Ignore the 500mg. It is actually 90mg of elemental magnesium per capsule. A lot of brands advertise it in the misleading way so you should always look at the nutritional facts.

This is what you want, not the oxide.

are people getting blood tests to show they are deficient in magnesium? if not, why are you supplementing?
just adding up their foods each day to see how much they are getting on average is another option

NatureBell is one of those Amazon-only supplement companies and is based in China.

A 2022 lab test found this specific supplement only had 67-73 mg of magnesium, not the 500mg claimed.

Important! This brand only has 21% of the RDA -- 90 mg of magnesium -- per pill. You would need to take 5 pills per day to get to the RDA.

Most other brands of glycinate have more Mg per pill. For instance, the Nature's Bounty pills sold at Costco have 120mg per pill, 50% more than this NatureBell brand. (They're also much cheaper in store than online.)

This is still a decent deal at the sale price, better than Costco's regular price, but you have to take a lot of pills. If you just take one per day, you won't see much benefit. You don't need to take the RDA, but I wouldn't take less than three (before bed) if you want to notice better sleep, less cramping and twitchiness, better blood sugar control, and all the other benefits of adequate Mg levels.

I'll also echo what previous posters have said. Oxide is worthless as a supplement. It's a laxative and doesn't get absorbed. The useful forms are all chelates that end in -ate. Glycinate, malate, taurate, threonate, and so on. Citrate is an exception: it's partially absorbed but partially a laxative, so I don't recommend it.

You're misunderstanding milligrams of the magnesium compound vs the milligrams of elemental magnesium. Then additionallynyou have to account for absorption of the various forms which can vary by like 10x.
NO! I'm talking about Elemental magnesium, not the total amount showed on the box like 500 mg here , there are lot of pills with 500 mg of the the magnesium with 150 mg of elemental magnesium and cost the almost the same and even lesser on a deal, where this one is 500 mg MG with only 90 mg is bioavailable form.

Does this type of magnesium help with sleep?
You want the chelated form so it absorbs properly. Thorne is another good brand and Country Life is OK too : https://panicattackhelp.org/best-...ete-guide/

My magnesium was high during my last doctors appointment. You don't need 500mg daily
Only a fraction of magnesium makes it into your blood stream so it's not accurate to test for. Your doctor should have explained that. Also, this is only 21% of daily value. It's not a full 500mg absorbed, only 90mg of it is actual magnesium your body gets, so you'd need 4-5 of these daily to get close to 500mg.

Taking 200 mg of natures something every night before bed. If I don't, my fiancee says I kick her a bunch. When I take it, I sleep settled.

I also feel like I wake up less. This was the kind of magnesium that I read was best for sleep.
Great, thanks!

Yes - but at this dose even Magnesium Glycinate can turn "explosive." People need to be careful of magnesium in all forms. Oxide is a laxative and glycinate can move in that direction with a dose over 350mg (and even 350 mg can become a problem just not explosive) . A lot depends on how someone's guts work and what else they are taking.I would not begin with 500 mg of any form
Hmmmm, OK, thanks.

The molecular mass of magnesium (di)glycinate is 172.423 g/mol, while the atomic weight of magnesium is 24.305 g/mol. 500mg of magnesium glycinate should contain 70mg of elemental magnesium (14.1%), not 90mg - you'd need over 600mg for that.

Now the FDA does have non-intuitive rounding rules, but you can also achieve these ratios by throwing in an excess of magnesium oxide / hydroxide along with your glycine and just leaving it in there.

I would not pay magnesium glycinate prices for an Amazon-only brand. Albion magnesium lysinate glycinate is only 9.9% magnesium by weight (100mg from a 1000mg tablet.) Since it's even more expensive than suspicious mystery glycinate, I also take citrate.

The science is still out, but it looks like it may well help with sleep quality and definitely can't hurt: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35184264/ (2022 cumulative review of studies)

Wish these had zinc and d3.
it's a very good thing no zinc and d3, actually (esp zinc). Zinc interferes with magnesium absorption and d3 is already being taken at high doses by a ton of ppl.
