If a large amount of toilet paper can go through a sewer without issue, why is it necessary to catch lint from a washer drain pipe? To me, attaching a lint trap with a tie that could easily come loose seems like a bigger problem than the small amount of lint it might catch.

1. lint does not biodegrade the way toilet paper does because it's mostly cotton and synthetic fibers and hair that either take much longer to biodegrade or do not biodegrade at all.
2. lint clusters into loose balls that attach themselves to any little irregular surface of the septic pipe and do not come off even with regular repeated flushing through the pipe and then it slowly accumulates into a bigger and bigger clump over time.
The cable tie secures the catcher extremely securely. It is not coming off by mistake no matter what if you tighten it correctly.

Thanks! Code worked. You definitely need them. We switch out ours like once every 1.5mos or so. It's crazy the amount of lint they catch

Not everything dissolves; Flushables is a wide term. Also, flushing has a lot more force than your washer. You should also be cleaning the dryer vent pipe to reduce fire hazard

Funny after 20 years, my washing machine drain pipe has never clogged with so-called "lint". I know I flush down the toilet much more solid material and tissue every day and don't need a "filter" there. I feel it's a solution for a non-existent problem that will, on it's own, create a new problem I didn't have before.

20 years in our house and the washer drain pipe has never clogged. A recent camera scoping of our main-line pipe to the street showed it was squeaky clean. I guess if you are predisposed to your pipe clogging from lint, this product is for you, but otherwise, just something else for me to forget to replace and before you know it, I have a mess in the laundry room because the filter is clogged.
