Have the Physics book (and a few others I haven't touched). I'd describe it as a Physics "science history" book which briefly explains different discoveries / Physics concepts without getting too in-depth. The material is pretty dry and intended for an adult. If your kid likes the topic of whichever book it's possible that they will like it, but the content is pretty dense. IMHO, reading it with your 10-year old is probably the best bet if you get it.

I wonder what's the best device for kids to comfortably read these science books, besides computer monitors?

Went for the economics book. Bought "50 Breakfast Burritos" instead. It's a trap.

I'm trying to get out of the Amazon walled garden, but Fire Tablets are hard to match. It's very easy to share specific books to family members through kindle library. I can even borrow ebooks from our local libraries and then share those. You can limit screen time based on the content so we give our kids basically unlimited reading time. I'm convinced that is one of the reasons they like reading so much now.
