If you are already running W10, W11 is a free upgrade. No need to buy it.

The end of life date for Windows 10 is October 14, 2025.

Some apps like Turbo Tax will not run on an OS no longer supported.

When I was a working man, the LAN at work would not accept logins from an OS no longer supported.

But almost all other apps will work for years if you are just browsing the net and doing email and so on. Windows 95 still works.

Doesn't mean it won't get revoked later these are grey market keys might as well activate it for free.
You have to link it with your Microsoft account. Once it's linked, it's yours to keep for the duration of the device.
I've had it revoked in the past with Windows 10, and the only limitation was that I couldn't transfer the license to another PC, which seems fair enough to me.

Windows should be free considering the amount of advertising and telemetry in it
It is by and large. Since Windows 8.1 all major updates to Windows have been offered for free. I know what you're trying to say, but the reason for all the ads is because they aren't making nearly as much revenue off of sales of Windows as they used to. The telemetry... I have yet to find anyone who brings that up who has 1) actually read the documentation about what is being collected and how it's being used, and 2) offered up any kind of evidence that it is being used in a way contrary to what is outlined. Telemetry's kind of a double edged sword. It can easily be abused, but it can also be extremely useful when trying to isolate a particular bug and the description given is total garbage. It can also be great for gaining insights into how people actually use your product and tailor future development around that. Before they'd probably just pay some market research company to do a focus group, but then you are only dealing with a very small subset of users who may not be very representative for a number of reasons. If you have the ability to be something of a fly on the wall, just silently observing, you can learn a lot.

It's basically free already. The only limitation is personalization settings, and the "activate Windows" watermark.

Purchased a license from these guys 2 weeks ago. Can recommend. Just remember to link the key to your Microsoft account to to avoid any deactivation issues.

Not my first grey market key (Win10 in 2018, Office 2016 in 2016). I've never had issues with Microsoft remote deactivating.

As long as we're not talking about someone selling keys generated by a keygen app and the people selling the unused keys are guaranteeing they won't ever be attempting to use them, I don't really see why it would be illegal or even unethical. It's not really any different from say used books, DVDs, or video games. IIRC, this has already been through the (US) courts and deemed legal. Of course companies like Microsoft pout about it because they don't get a taste of the resale proceeds. Same reason the music and movie industry hates the used CD/DVD/BD market, and book publishers hate used book stores.

Unless you are building a computer from scratch, 99% of people shouldn't ever need to purchase a windows key. A windows key is hardcoded into the firmware of most pre-built desktops and laptops already. It automatically gets passed to the OS when you clean install the OS from MS's site, you never enter a key.

Most retail computers come with Windows Home version. This is Pro.

Plenty of free Linux flavors that are faster, more secure, and aren't basically spyware operating systems like Windows is these days. Most apps either have Linux versions now or a replacement can be used, often times better than the Windows version. You can even game (even competitively) on Linux now thanks to Steam and Proton.
