" Aesthetically - no question the Nessie ladle is a joy to behold. The idea is cute, the berry-red color looks great and the contrasting rough/glossy surface treatment on the outside & inside surfaces is smart. Unfortunately, that's about where the fun ends.
One of the big selling points of this ladle is that you're supposed to be able to simply stand it on the kitchen counter until your soup is ready to serve. This would have been very easy to achieve using the following basic design techniques: (1) Thicken the plastic toward the bottom of the bowl to make the ladle more bottom-heavy, (2) position Nessie's front legs further out where the neck/handle is to account for the extra weight on that side of the ladle, or (3) both of the above, for even better stability.
It's evident that none of these techniques were applied here. Instead, all 4 legs are evenly arranged around the center of the bowl, and the plastic is of the same thickness almost everywhere except the legs themselves, offsetting the center of mass so much that even the slightest tap will knock the ladle right over. The only way it wouldn't happen is if you stand it on the counter while full of soup, but why would anyone do that...
Also, the plastic itself is so thin that the handle actually flexes under the load of its own contents - not only affecting long-term durability, but making the whole thing feel flimsy right from the start. Worst of all, since the handle is increasingly concave on one side to blend into the hollow form of the head and offer a half-hearted attempt at rigidity where it's least important, the ergonomics are terrible in exactly the place you'd instinctively want to grip it, never being quite comfortable enough to hold.
No choice but to return this. Pity that such a cool-looking product is so poorly thought out. 5 stars for appearance, 1 for execution. "
