For the price, this is a great setup if you don't need an EVF. AF is not near class-leading but the market has moved far beyond $400 for APS-C interchangeable lens bodies, so this is a lot of bang for the buck.

Ive been out of the gear scene for a while, hows this compare to the D810?

This is APS-C as opposed to Full Frame ("FF"), it's 20.9MP vs. 36.3MP, but if you're looking for something light, and small and you enjoy Nikon's color science, this is a great camera for the price. The 16-50mm kit lens is nice in that it collapses when not in use and it starts at the FF equivalent of 24mm when a lot of APS-C kit lenses started at a FF equivalent of 28mm in the past.
