Yeah but you usually have to consent to the electric company controlling your HVAC as deemed necessary by them.

You can also order these through your electric company at highly discounted prices.

Ecobees are awesome. Great scheduling features and ability to automate/fine-tune your temperatures. Good mobile app as well. Changing the temp from bed is awesome. However, the air quality monitor in these is basically worthless so you may want to choose a cheaper model without that. Cheaper models still have the same scheduling options AFAIK.

Also - No internet connectivity issues for me, in almost two years of usage.

Good info. Unfortunately in some areas, like SCE (Southern California), the rebate is only $75 and it's basically full MSRP on the unit. $260 - $75 is $185 and you get 1 sensor. Definitely the way to go though if it's not on sale!

* I'm going to correct myself. I believe, at least for SCE, you have the ability ot buy this and then apply for the $75 credit separately, making this $125 which seems like a good deal.

Not true. The rebate is without them controlling your AC

YMMV. My electric provider only gives a $50 rebate for a self installed smart thermostat

Anyone have insight into the value of upgrading an older ecobee? My ecobee4 has been chugging along nicely for quite a while. I haven't been able to find much on what the newer model and smart sensors bring to the table.

ORU in NY has this, yes and only for AC usage... but you can override any time you'd like and it doesn't effect anything with the price/plan.
PSEG in NJ doesn't, and funny enough has better prices than my NY company, doesn't track anything and let's you buy multiples. i've purchased 4 through my buddies account that lives in NJ, for dirt cheap back when the Lite came out i got 4 for 20$ each (i didn't need sensors for those zones or any of the other occupancy nonsense in the main unit.)

rebates are different than buying directly from their store and signing up for plans, which is generally a higher discount because they want control. control can be overridden, at least for the 1 i bought from ORU here in NY for my AC.

Grok summary... since i couldn't find a side by side anywhere Wink
"The Ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium is a significant upgrade over the Ecobee 4, offering a larger, more vibrant display, a premium zinc design, dual-band Wi-Fi, a radar-based motion sensor, and an air quality sensor. It also adds Siri support, enhanced Alexa features (including calling and music streaming), and integration with Ecobee's security ecosystem, including Smart Doorbell Camera support. The Ecobee 4, while still a capable thermostat with Alexa integration and room sensor support, lacks these advanced features and has a less modern design. If you value air quality monitoring, security integration, and a premium aesthetic, the Smart Thermostat Premium is worth the investment. However, if your needs are simpler and you already own Alexa devices, the Ecobee 4 (if still available) or a similar model like the Ecobee3 Lite might suffice at a lower cost."

sounds like nothing i care about in a thermostat... i wouldn't even upgrade any of my 3 Lites.

would pass on ecobee. was happy with for the first year now mine but it has a hard time staying connected to the internet. have to reset and reconnect a lot
Have had my current one for 6 years. The one before that I had for 5 years before I sold the house. They've been rock solid. Not saying your experience isn't valid, just adding another user experience. If you like seeing stats, check out the beestat app. Gives you much better information than Ecobee's app.
