This feels like a very specific experience. I have done a coast-to-coast Amtrak trip over a few days and it was fun and peaceful. The scenic cars are great.
a. have the time. (this will take the same amount of time as driving, cost less money in this case, and not put the miles/wear and tear on your ride)
b. want to take a lot of stuff with you. You can pack as much as will fit in your car.
They serve dinner and breakfast onboard and have a snack car open for the duration of the ride.
