Why is this so cheap normally? Makes me suspicious.

It's $8. Can beat the hell out of it on a camping trip as a disposable tool.

I expect whatever Coleman demanded of them, which probably wasn't much.

I've had one of these for probably over a decade. I'm pretty sure it's a solid piece of metal neck-to-head. Mine is a bit bent from using it for jobs too big for it, but it's still usable for simple camping tasks like splitting small logs and is great for that.

exactly. coleman asked for a $4 axe... Chinese factory delivered a $4 axe before logistics duties advertising warehousing trucking payroll etc

Is an axe greatest item to get a deal on? This should be one of those items where you want a little more reliability and safety from. Seeing that little plastic ring that joins the axe head to the handle would make me nervous to use it seriously.

2X,

Don't know if it is exactly the same model, but looks it, Had it over ten years and keep it in the RV. Great for breaking down branches for kindling. Even use it as a wedge for splitting bigger logs. Nice accessory to my larger axe we carry. We've beat on it pretty good and still holds an edge and so far.

plastic ring on mine is meaningless. over ten years its stretched and moves up and down the handle.

Dear god no, a deal on an axe is like getting a deal on a heart surgeon.

It's a tiny hand axe, not a log splitter. You can do little jobs with this, not taking down oaks.
