Is the R7 and 18-150 for 1099 a good deal?

Seeing as the R7 is $1500 body-only everywhere else, I'd say yes. The 18-150 (29-240 w/ sensor crop) is a $539 lens on its own and one of the best all-around lenses in that range, you'd just want additional faster glass for low light or wides (<25mm/f2.8).

Thanks for sharing this! Didn't buy but was able to get a nice price adjustment for a camera I bought 4 days ago.

Yes that's a great deal. I would order one in a heartbeat, but it's out of stock.

Absolutely is a great deal! Powerful camera which I've used for several years to do wildlife and bird photography. . . . best bang for the buck camera on the market today!

When an "I"-phone costs merely $800, sure....the Canon is great. Spend away.

thanks for the advice guys!

was able to get the order in for the R7 and 18-150mm kit lens, looks like a great replacement for my eos-m6, which feels quite slow nowadays despite the still good IQ

Wow this T7 still in existence. Was bad at release and 10 years later is absolutely atrocious junk to give to your kids to hate photograph and never ask again.
You'd seriously be better off giving a kid a used Canon 5D classic with a 50mm f/1.8 stm lens. At least you could say the limitations "help build technique" instead of "these limitations are because I'm cheap and this is a piece of entry-level junk".

The R7 is great for sports and wildlife. The 18-150 is a good starter lens. For 1099 you can't go wrong.

Another eye popping deal is the Canon R10 with 18-45 RF for 599. This kit lens is not great but this is a great price to get the R10 refurbished. R10 body only refurbished for 579 not in stock. I would argue that if weather sealing and dual SIM not important than the R10 is even better value for money than R7. R7 does have IBIS (in camera stabilization) but from what I have read it's only increment benefit over a stabilized lens.

any suggestions for cameras for a photography newb? admittedly, i will probably have limited use cases as I don't want to be hauling a camera around, but I would probably use it for:
1) pics when traveling
2) pics of family
3) astrophotography (which i rarely do)

idk how feasible something like #1 is since i like to travel light, and carrying a camera takes up a lot of space

Those are both good deals for the R7 and R10. I've been looking at the R7 for several months. The R7 mark ii has been rumored forever and I've been holding out.

The R10 would be a good choice for a starter camera. Not much reach with the 18-45mm lens though. For $600 you could easily resell it and get you money back if you didn't like it.
