Same thing happened to me, I ended up buying it at $700 and honestly I have no regrets...this setup is very nice!

To really hear what this is capable of, you need to watch a 4K blu-ray. The audio blows streaming audio away. Streaming platform audio is all compressed, unless you download the uncompressed files (which are usually huge files) and use something like a Plex server. Otherwise, it doesn't matter what your internet speed is. Netflix, Prime, Apple TV, etc… all compressed. Disc audio is noticeably better. I have Top Gun Maverick digitally and on 4K blu-ray, and it's a big difference. It sounds amazing on this system.

Idk if there is F one out, but gotta tell you, you cannot keep up with tech unfortunately unless you are very rich.

Certain models of tv will integrate their speakers in addition to the soundbar's components. It's called "Q Symphony".
has anyone actually heard this? i dont think it works. i moved the sound bar away and cannot hear anything come from the samsung tv speakers. i have QN90D.

I have a dumb question but here it goes: How can this be an 11.1.4 setup? I see a soundbar so I'll assume that is the front left/front right/center. Then I see the 2 rears which would be the back left and back right. Then I see 1 sub. Wouldn't this be a 5.1?
Not dumb,it's a common misconception. That's a label for traditional "speaker" setups, clearly soundbars don't work that way.Soundbars are tech based setup and use minute "speakers"(woofers) to produce sound.TBH the comparison isn't fair, it's apples n oranges one.Traditional setups provide the best quality, it does come with work to take optimal advantage of it, especially for object based soundtracks. If you can't or won't do that, soundbars can be good enough with the sacrifice for people. With the popularity of streaming it kinda makes sense since it's a significant drop in audio quality.

I bought is two weeks ago. Not great. my LG TV's builtin surround with no subwoofer etc does pretty much the same job. unfortunately, its going back

You didn't have it set up right or something. The 990D is nothing but amazing, Dolby atmos on this is excellent. I upgraded from an 850D

I upgraded from a 5.1.4 samsung atmos soundbar (don't remember which one, but it was ~3 years old)--this was a huge upgrade.

Haven't tried but I was wondering the same. I don't have enough room behind my couch to place these properly. My best guess is you'd basically be flattening/raising the rear channels into the rear height plane, so for atmos stuff you'd lose the rear effect completely (or depending on how you angle them, flipping sounds upside down in the rear which seems even worse).
Wait you lose rear surround effect if speakers are above ear level? Or just if you mount them on the ceiling

I meant losing the rear atmos/height effect, not the rear surround effect completely.

Can you share the excuse and the reason you stated as to why you wanted to send it back?
I just told the rep that I really liked it but my wife thought it was too expensive.
