I used one of these for a few years with no big complaints or problems. Used to be a bit cheaper than this, but oh well. Got replaced by something lighter and larger (But more expensive) a few years ago, but I still use it as a rucking / weight pack. If it tore or got badly damaged, I'd probably get another for that same purpose. Easily handles around #100, mostly in the hydration chamber bit, but distributed in the other pockets as well. It can really help balance out any midrange lifts, if paired with dumbbells or a barbell. Super comfortable and easily put on / taken off. If it doesn't feel right, you probably don't have the waist strap high or tight enough. Shouldn't be resting heavily on your shoulders. There are great guides. Anyways, hope this helps.

PS - I did have one issue where the chest strap tore, but that was after years, and well into the weight pack usage. Don't think it'd be a problem with normal backpacking usage, and it wasn't exactly hard to repair.

I have this bag. It's a beast, it's heavy (for a bag) but it's awesome if you need the space. I'd call it an excellent bag if you're carrying outdoor for your family or doing the hostel thing backpacking through another country (I did both with it). No issue with zippers or rips, been super happy with it. I swap out my ultra light bags for overnight camping.

Great price! I have not gone backpacking yet, but I just moved to Colorado so I'm trying to gear up budget friendly. Thanks!

my old north face backpack lost all the PU waterproof coating.
How about this backpack? PU waterproof coating? or silicon oil?

The features are clearly listed on the page.

Given though it does have a rain cover (at a $50 price point), I think that's fair for water protection.

Also FYI for anyone else, the color that is on second blue picture for the $50.99 is not correct.

The color that you'll get is "Pacific" which matches the wording. The incorrect color shown is another: "Bluejay"

Thanks OP! I wanted a big bag for scout camping but didn't want to break the bank. I won't do real backpacking, more for walk-in walk-out of a mile or two, so the extra weight isn't close to a deal breaker. This looks like it will cover me until I decide I want to start actually backpacking and choose a much more expensive bag.

Decent price a backpack capable for backpacking, but pretty heavy at 4.6lbs. The Granite Gear Crown 3 is a much, much lighter backpack that's about half the weight and just as, if not more, capable. The Crown is $120 on Steep and Cheap right now, which is the best backpack deal I've ever seen. FWIW, I started with a different Teton bag and upgraded to the Crown 2 a few years ago and it's been fantastic for me.

For water protection, use a trash compactor bag (basically a thick garbage bag) as a pack liner. Weighs a couple of grams and works great.

This bag really takes me back... This is the exact model I bought before I started back packing around the world, around 2010. I got this and the smaller capacity yellow bag. My wife and I have taken them everywhere from camping in the Rockies to Puerto Rico. The bag went on two different trips, riding trains around Europe being stuffed into all kinds of overhead compartments. I have patches from all the countries the bag has been to, sewed on to the front. In all that time I never had any rips or tears or broken buckles. Bags have the perfect amount of compartments and are pretty water proof. There is even an elastic yellow poncho attached at the bottom if you really hit bad weather.

I'm too old to backpack now but they still get used every time we go camping

Awesome bag, definitely recommend 👍

Wow, a bag at over twice the price is better. Learn something new everyday.

Good bag, I bought the 55L version for $74 in 2016 and still use it. It's my first hiking backpack.

same, got it for $75 in '21 and it has been great (no issues with rips, zippers, etc.). i'm only going on trips for a couple of days once a year and i just needed a cheaper bag even if it's a little heavier. i'm 5'7" and the 55L feels like just the right size with a pad on the bottom.
