I was in the market for a printer for my GF's school since she has an M4 and needed a printer with Apple AirPrint. I noticed this model is the "XL" variant that comes with the extra toner cartridge and is the same price as the non-XL version that doesn't come with one. Usually the price is $55 dollars more for the XL model.

This MFCL2900DWXL [amazon.com] says it comes with a TN830 toner cartridge worth $49.99 [amazon.com] that can print up to 1200 pages and a TN830XL toner cartridge worth $84.99 [amazon.com] that can print up to 3000 pages. Apparently the regular MFCL2900DW [amazon.com] comes with a "starter" toner cartridge that only prints 700 pages.

The seller and shipper is Amazon, so this seems like a pretty good deal for those looking for black & white laser jet printer. This one doesn't qualify for Amazon Prime shipping unlike the regular variant.

FWIW, 3rd party toner cartridges usually work pretty well with Brother, and WAY cheaper. You would have been fine with the regular one. They are beasts though. I have a similar one with duplex scan, duplex print, etc that is prob around 15yrs old now and printed 100+ pages per month like clockwork for about 10yrs straight before retiring from that job. Never skipped a beat. Still works just fine with the much lighter and sporadic household use now despite its age (think compatibility/drivers and such, not just functionality).
