Is there any other hack to make the deal even better? I only need 2 batteries, and I wonder if the battery return method works for this one.

No these are a single item, but you can sell the 2 pack of XC3.0s for 60-75 on marketplace pretty easily if you don't need them.

This version has the free battery add on, not as good of a deal if you want everything though. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwa.../320268525

Not at my computer but Walmart has this with fewer batteries for 160. If you have enough batteries already it may be an
Option

Is buying into m12 fuel, or ryobi HP the better play?

I'm not making a living with these tools, but would like to step up to something better than the no name stuff I've got that's falling apart.

Also curious to hear which line is better in the aftermarket/weird accessories/hacking and adapters scene

edit: is the 1/4 m12 fuel impact up for removing lugs? 130 ft lb range

No, this is a hex impact DRIVER, EG for driving large screws with screw driver type bits, it MIGHT remove passenger car lugs on a good day with an adapter, but what you really need for that job is a 3/8 or 1/2 Impact WRENCH (uses sockets). Brand wise, Ryobi is a pretty good value and has larger tools available. M12 is a supplemental "small tool' line to M18 but has some pretty capable stuff. If it was me I'd stick to Dewalt or Milwaukee because of quality, reliability and most of all variety of tools available, but for the average home owner honestly nearly any brand out there today has decent options that will probably be fine as long as they make any specialty tool you might be interested in, lithium batteries and tool motor technology has trickled down from the top end to the bottom end and todays bargain brand tools are as good as top tier tools were 10 years ago or less.

Debating this deal vs. Walmart @ 169 -- Walmart's is from a third party seller and there's so many fakes floating around these days. With HD you're guaranteed to get a genuine one.

Thanks for catching my mistake, I was thinking this was a driver and impact wrench combo.

Thanks as well for your thoughts on what tool line to buy into. There's enough out there to make your head spin lol. Ryobi sounds like a good middleground between performance, price, and optionality.

This is close to as good as I have ever seen this in memory. I kinda wish I hadn't just gotten the m18 fuel hammer drill instead :-)

$149 for the hammer drill and impact driver + 2 batteries is the "normal" slick deal if you are willing to do the hack and return the "free" item. I think a few years back it might have gone to $129 on black friday but I haven't seen that on alert in awhile.

As others have said, largely depends on battery needs. The $199 deal with no return business is 4 batts, or do the $229 deal and return the 2x3ah batteries and its $146 for tools and two batts. Only thing that doesn't make sense is do the $229 deal and keep everything.

Edit: I think if you do not want the hammer drill there have been deals for the regular drill + impact driver for $99 once in awhile. Might have been regular M12 not fuel M12 though.
