OTOH, although you often need an Rotary Hammer for the tougher jobs, it's hard, for me, to make a nice neat hole. What worked for me is using a Rotary Hammer with a undersized bit. Then coming through again with a hammer drill with the right size bit. This created the most uniform hole and gives the bolt the most to grab onto.
I would recommend to just do the battery hack one for $150 @ HD if you don't need the extra 2 batteries from a previous deal:

called up home depot and had picture of geniune tools listing on ebay for 170 and they priced match for the 2 bayyeries only
wouldn't this deal be better? $30 more, you get 2 more batteries. So $15 each per batt.

Really solid deal. Everyone should have a few m12 tools / batteries regardless of your primary tool kit lol.
M12 Stapler, rotary tool, transfer pump, ratchets, nibbler, lights, etc... are just among a few of the super useful m12 line.
I'm not making a living with these tools, but would like to step up to something better than the no name stuff I've got that's falling apart.
Also curious to hear which line is better in the aftermarket/weird accessories/hacking and adapters scene
edit: is the 1/4 m12 fuel impact up for removing lugs? 130 ft lb range
If you're looking to step up your game and want to stick with 1 brand as an occasional user, I'd go Ryobi 18v and make sure you find deals on their higher end brushless models that are better quality. Some of their entry level brushed stuff is true garbage. There's always deals on Ryobi and lots of aftermarket finds, plus a huge variety of tools. If you want a better name brand and higher quality tools and to spend probably almost 2x, you could also get Milwaukee 18v. For me, I absolutely love the Milwaukee M12 tools, but I wouldn't want just M12. These are very powerful but if you're trying to run a small cleanup shop vac on those M12, the battery will die super fast. I have the Milwaukee M12 smaller shop vac :-).
For reference, I started with Ryobi 18v and probably have 30 or so of their tools. Then got this Milwaukee M12 set to add on for smaller more portable tools and I use these a lot. Then I got a bunch of the other M12 tools like the ratchet and hackzall. Then I fell in love with the size and power of the Milwaukee M18 Fuel impact driver and got that and the hammer drill. I still have all my Ryobi stuff and will keep most of it, but will likely sell off the older 4 impact drivers I have and a drill or two since I just don't use them much now. However, I'm keeping all my other Ryobi stuff (routers, sanders, pole saw, sawzall, dust buster, impact wrenches, etc, etc).
As others have said, largely depends on battery needs. The $199 deal with no return business is 4 batts, or do the $229 deal and return the 2x3ah batteries and its $146 for tools and two batts. Only thing that doesn't make sense is do the $229 deal and keep everything.
Edit: I think if you do not want the hammer drill there have been deals for the regular drill + impact driver for $99 once in awhile. Might have been regular M12 not fuel M12 though.

No, this is a hex impact DRIVER, EG for driving large screws with screw driver type bits, it MIGHT remove passenger car lugs on a good day with an adapter, but what you really need for that job is a 3/8 or 1/2 Impact WRENCH (uses sockets). Brand wise, Ryobi is a pretty good value and has larger tools available. M12 is a supplemental "small tool' line to M18 but has some pretty capable stuff. If it was me I'd stick to Dewalt or Milwaukee because of quality, reliability and most of all variety of tools available, but for the average home owner honestly nearly any brand out there today has decent options that will probably be fine as long as they make any specialty tool you might be interested in, lithium batteries and tool motor technology has trickled down from the top end to the bottom end and todays bargain brand tools are as good as top tier tools were 10 years ago or less.
Thanks for catching my mistake, I was thinking this was a driver and impact wrench combo.
Thanks as well for your thoughts on what tool line to buy into. There's enough out there to make your head spin lol. Ryobi sounds like a good middleground between performance, price, and optionality.
