I had a pair of these. They were actually comfortable for shorter rides but the bands on the legs stretched out extremely fast.

I really recommending buying bib shorts and NOT putting anything in between whatever padding/chamois you have (if you use any.) you really want anything that touches your seat area to stay in place as much as possible, especially on longer rides, if you want to avoid chaffing. friction is your enemy.

you may think they look dorky with the suspender straps, but you're going to be wearing a shirt/top/jersey over the straps, any way, and saddle sores are much more painful and longer lasting.

edit: I promise this is not meant to be a boast, but I guess I should mention that I say this as someone who rides 5,000 road miles a year, and does two 100 mile rides a year. I've gotten thousands of miles from cheapo bibs that cost less than this from Aliexpress (or temu, I imagine.) Rockbros make some good ones.
I use some higher end ones now, but if you want something name brand that won't break the bank, I find the Pearl Izumi Quest bib shorts to be extremely serviceable. I've done a few century rides in those, and they are on sale for under $70 right now.

this is now running longer than I anticipated, but just some more notes I wish I had when I started: I throw mine in the wash, and I air dry mine now, but if you're truly lazy, you will probably still get a ton of life out of your bibs if you dry them on the gentle cycle, but air drying and owning two or three pairs is a really good way to go about it.

Bibs are kinda rare in the MTB community and I'm not sure why, but as someone who occasionally rides both road (mostly gravel now) and MTB, I tend to agree with you. I have a lot of MTB shorts with detachable liners (Zoics included) and I often just wear my bib shorts under them because I prefer the overall fit. And as you stated, I always wear a MTB jersey that hides the straps anyway. Works for me.

That said, Zoic makes decent liner shorts. I think 25% off isn't super slick though.
