Screw Sonos and their software. Not over-paying for something like this if I can't even cast from my Pixel or connect via Bluetooth. I have some cheaper Sonos gear (Symfonisk and Era 100); no more due to lack of features that one would expect out of $10 speakers.
User error. Get a better network and learn how to use Sonos.

I gather this post is based on your experience years ago because Sonos got rid of their last CEO since that debacle. They've brought back features they deprecated and seem to be actively trying to make things better. The Reddit forums have generally happy customers with positive feedback, myself included.

If I could do something as simple as casting audio from my Youtube or Jellyfin apps I'd be a much happier camper!

I have a self-managed Unifi network with multiple VLANs, Home Assistant, and occasionally send RTSP directly to my speakers. I know a thing or two about tech.

maybe the new ceo can turn on the ability to use a theater setup as a zone for music too. ridiculous that feature isn't possible. or turn on the gen1 stuff they completely abandoned (to this day).

So, you can you use the theater setup as a ZONE for music? Try it. Try to create a group of 2 zones, one of which is your theater setup. Sorry, but you can't do it.
