it probably is due to the warranty and what people may put on the top as well.
the dual motor may held more weight ( can also be due to the fact that they may put cheap knockoff motor), but the top part may broke depending how thin you put, and also it can be liability and warranty wide reason ( i.e, you put too much weight that burned motor, so its you (customer) fault rather than the manufacturer

Does anyone know how this compares to the single motor version that was on Slickdeals a few days ago? I ordered that one but have an opened it yet. contemplating a return for this one given that it is dual motors and an extended 3-year warranty is only $11.

How smooth are motors like this? If I use a monitor mount on the desk top when it goes up and down will the monitors flop around or do they go up and down pretty smooth?

Looking to make a custom Black Walnut desk top so I'm in the market for something like this. I dont mind paying a premium if there's something much better, just haven't done the research yet.

Any recoomendations?

Don't know much about this one, but as others have said the max weight is low for a dual motor. From my research, Autonomous and TopSky are good mid-tier desk frames for what you'd be doing. DeskHaus Apex Pro is a highly rated higher end, super sturdy.

I've never used this but I fixed one of these for a friend a few years ago. Their thing stopping going up and down. I think dust can get inside the electronics part bc all I did was find which chip was getting really hot so I figured it was shorting. I scrubbed the leads and it started working again. There's also some error codes that are Google-able for things like "motor issue" or whatever, which is kinda nice.

Often these cheap desks will have plastic parts in the mechanism that will wear out after a year or two.

For example see https://www.reddit.com/r/Standing...ism_prime/

Also two-part legs will be less stable than 3-part legs.

Check out Flexispot E-series (E5, E7) - 15 year warranty.

Interesting Idea, I actualy one one near me and shop there.

I have built two Sit/Stand Desks so far.

My wife's is a super heavy duty triple motor L desk that used a frame from Monoprice and I built the top out of 3/4" plywood, and then covered in vinyl. This let me build a huge 7'x7' desk and customize it to her for looks.

For my second desk, in my studio is a frame more like this that came from Amazon, and for that I am using 1" thick rubber wood (looks like butcher block) and that came from Home Depot as it was made for kitchen counter usage I think or perhaps garage worktable as its indestructible and quite heavy.

At this price I almost want to get a 3rd just to have on hand, but curious what table tops you are thinking about from RD?
