It took me some time to realize that the blades are external. The blades are made of cloth, though.

Bought via the meh version of deal. Meh is apt description. It moves air, but not much, and not well-targeted. You really would have a hard time hurting yourself with the thing, which is good because you'll end up reaching thru the 'blades' to turn it on/off.
