My kid really wanted this and we picked it up from Costco on sale for $30 shortly after it came out and I found out it was an incredibly short game.

I think they're referring to the fact this wasn't made by the same company that makes most of the other Lego-branded video games. This games was made by a completely different company than the usual studio, and the reviews have been that the quality is much lower. And most comments seem to indicate the game is only abou 8-10 hours long if you do everything possible.
