Adobe is dead to me. They sold software without subscription then took access away from customers after going subscription model

It stacked for me last week. But my current plan was identical to the one I bought.

My current subscription (Creative plan + 20GB) is valid until ~December 2025.. Since this one won't stack (different plan), am I correct in that I can buy now, hold onto it, and apply it come December? No expiration dates on the plan start time?

lol - Adobe is exactly the reason people should start pirating again in 2025. I have no problem paying for what I use, but their absolute abuse of the customer base is why they will never see a dollar from me ever again. The more people sign up for this pay by the day software, the less you will get in the long run. Anyone remember paying for software and, I dunno, actually being able to own it? F Adobe.

I was against the 'pay-to-rent' model for the longest time.. but out of all of the ones I pay for, Adobe is probably the one who does it the best. With that said, their awful "You agreed on an annual plan/pay by the month, and we're going to charge you a high cancellation fee!" is weak.

I bought Photoshop CS6 right before it was phased out and dropped something like $600 or $700 on it. It still works today, but it's heavily outdated. Back then you would buy the software (like Lightroom 1 for $300) and then pay an upgrade every year (~$150) or whenever you needed the newest version. I bought every version from 1-5 (6?), spending about a grand on it alone, and while it still works today, it's again heavily outdated.

The $8/month this plan costs for Photoshop + Lightroom and all of the updated features, is actually worth it. I don't like to support adobe, but out of all the other photo softwares being sold, the monthly cost is usually $15-30 or $200-300 to purchase (and you're stuck with the current version).

I disagree with some of Adobe's business models and tricking consumers, but the price they charge for PS + Lightroom is actually a hell of a deal for anyone wanting industry-level software, whether they're a pro or a consumer who wants to edit their photos

When I made nothing from Photography, I had to "borrow" PS and Lr and had to work around things. If CC was around back then, I would have been able to afford it, but I also kind of hate the subscription model.

I've been looking for alternatives, I switched from Premiere to DaVinci Resolve cold turkey one night hand haven't looked back. It's been a struggle, but DaVinci is better in my opinion, but some of it is stupid (different conversation for a different thread).

My full adobe suite is about to expire in a few days and I've been looking for a Ps and Lr alternative, but I just have so much experience with both, it's really hard for me to switch.

Timing is perfect, I'm going to jump on this now. At the very least, it buys me another year to find an alternative.

Does the 12 months start at purchase from said vendor or at redemption of the code?
It's at redemption. But they don't stack anymore. So if you have a current subscription, it will start a new one that runs concurrently
A yearly plan can be stacked, I just extended my existing account ~5 minutes ago. It only works if the plan types are identical though ( 20GB cannot be extended with 1 TB)

Do they send you a code to redeem from Adobe site or when you install the program?

Well, sort of. There are two types of yearly plans, billed monthly and billed yearly (yes they are both redemption codes, yes you pay for the year up front, don't ask me why but this somehow makes sense to Adobe).
If you have one and use a code for the other, it will not stack and instead run concurrently. I do not know how you can tell from the code which is which, and I doubt the retailer knows and/or cares. You're probably safe if you only buy from one retailer. But don't use this code if you've bought from B&H in the past.

Be careful—even if the plan name is the same, it may still activate as a different plan since the included apps can vary slightly. Contacting an agent should resolve the issue.

They'll send you a new code… honestly, it's such a mess.

Is the newegg one the +15 plan or the +21 plan?
