It a little early to be using this. Around Labor Day weekend I overseed and apply Scotts lawn food. I'm in NY, I apply Winterguard end of September and again 3-weeks after. I follow Scott's 4 step program plus I add other Milo as well. Lawn looks a million times better then the landscapers I've tried over the years.

Generally, 6–8 weeks before the first frost. If SoCal even gets frost lol

I'm not disciplined enough to follow any "program" lol. Maybe I'll make that my ny resolution next year.

I'm going to say, however, that I put some liquid stuff down 4ish months ago then applied some pellet stuff a few weeks ago and my grass is pretty happy - making me want to continue some sort of schedule.

End of November
This fertilizer is not for warm season lawns in the fall. The analysis on this is 32-0-16 which is very high N when the grass is trying to go dormant. It can actually harm the grass forcing it to focus it's energy on the leaf instead of storing it in the roots to tide the winter. Warm season lawns need a fert high in K and a little bit of P to build strong roots for the winter. For cool season lawns, this is perfect.

Hi noobie question. Why is this perfect for cool season? Wouldn't the "high in K and a little P" also be good? Isn't the difference just when you apply them?

Apply pre-emergent in the fall.
