What makes this a garbage product in particular? Been looking for one, curious to hear your input on this item.

I give up on SD. Another fake Amazon seller garbage Chinese product "design in USA" crap, shilled by SD staff.

I miss the days when the majority of deals was posted by people, and not corporations.

Okay, as a SD with an account for a bit, let me say:

Damn bro. It's not that bad.

Like what is the deal with you being suspicious of someone saying 'hey a 6 USD puncher/marker isn't a bad deal'? You think that dude was the head of a conspiracy or a shill for a 50% off dollar store product?

I mean, if they are scamming people to drum up this deal, power to them, they could make tens of tens of dollars, all it takes is selling their soul and lying by saying this deal is 'not that bad.'

The hardness of the steel used on the punch pins vary on a wide spectrum, this one likely would limit its use on just punch-marking aluminum, otw dull/flatten the point. I have a couple of these commodity "brands", some are difficult to prime the punch to fire. The better ones have a small threaded replaceable tip made of treated high carbon steel, but one from say, Starrett, would not be in this price point.

Limit use to softer aluminum, or when it barely marks a dimple, you would need to start with a much smaller (starter) drill bit to prevent walking. Don't forget lubricants and proper force / RPM ranges.

For center-punching steel, I would invest into a hand punch's steel (if you have clearance for the hammer), and Project Farm's review might help you put the money into the better ones.

This is a helpful description that explains why this product may not suit all use-cases. This is much more informative than "it's garbage."

read the amazon reviews. the thing falls apart if you look at it wrong. steel is soft. spring is weak, etc.

a good punch isnt much more than this.
