Yeah Lenovo a while back started locking down the bootloader on their android tablets. Some people have had success using fastboot after enabling developer options, but its spotty.Specs look good but I just have a hard time saying yes to an any android tablet thats $300+

Unfortunately the jobs I do require intel chips. Wish there was another surface pro competitor that uses ultra core 2nd gen.

Well, there's a ton of pc tablets. Maybe not with the exact cpu you want.

Pretty competitive specs and accessories for the price compared to a galaxy tab 10 series, but I grabbed a legion Gen 3 recently and the amount of garbage they pre install on that thing felt like I bought a fire tablet with ads enabled.

The limited four years of security updates is an absolute deal breaker. Too bad, I'd love to use Android apps in this form factor. Maybe eventually they'll start offering seven years like they do on the Pixel phones. Even then, I have my Lenovo Windows laptop that works great after ten years, why should I settle for less?

Doesn't Samsung have pretty long update cycle on their Galaxy Tab devices?

These are compelling specifications... particularly the combination of premium screen, Snapdragon CPU, and generous 16GB RAM configuration. The only real letdown would arguably be the installation of a locked installation of Android. If only this thing were running Microsoft Windows on ARM at this price point... or at least ChromeOS.

I was digging into the deal to see if Lenovo incorporated an OLED screen in this model. Lenovo instead opted for a "brighter" IPS panel rather than an OLED. An OLED around this price point might be expected to be a model "only" rated for 400nits. Of course, there are still some advantages to an OLED screen with a lower maximum brightness rating, but this is rabbit-hole primarily of interest only to OLED fanboys (like me!).

Personally, I've almost completely abandoned any dedicated tablet running Android (with my remaining Fire tablets being the only qualified exceptions). I've found ChromeOS support for Android applications completely sufficient. Additionally, the Auto Update policy for ChromeOS devices has provided long-term software support well beyond the abandonware that still defines so many Android tablets.

Perhaps others looking at the deal could also chime in with their primary use cases for a premium Android tablet?

Good luck!
Jon

They don't make the Ideapad you linked anymore.
For an alternative, check out the Thinkpad X12 Detachable Gen 2. I use a gen 1 for work and it's great.

Honestly, I don't get why people make such a big deal about this. At this price, 4 years is plenty. Paying $450 for 4 years (Lenovo) versus $850+ for "up to" 7 years (Samsung) seems quite reasonable. Most of us start itching for new technology after about three years anyway. I know I have never used a smartphone, tablet or laptop as my main driver for more than four years anyway. For people who prefer to use their devices for longer then, sure, get the product that provides updates for longer (you're paying a lot more too). And if that's the case, just get Apple bc they are rock solid with long update support and their hardware is usually good enough to still work well after 5+ years. Does anyone want to use a 5+ yo Samsung or Lenovo tablet? Doubt it.
