It's not immediately apparent, but this is a DC fan.

DC fans are all the rage lately because they use considerably less energy than the "normal" AC ones that you direct wire to the switch. DC fans include a transformer and are "always on" -- you use a remote to control them. There could be different ones, but that's how the one I installed operates. They're typically more expensive than AC fans if you look at some place like HD or Lowes.

I like that this fan is only 10" in height. The room where I need it has a low ceiling.

I feel like it's almost impossible to find AC fans these days. I prefer AC myself.

I just took a glance at Hunter fans at HD -- all of the ones I clicked on were AC. The trend is definitely toward DC because the last administration mulled over the idea of eliminating AC fans through the EPA, which is complete crap policy. The DC ones are more expensive in general (apart from these Chicom ones), and while the DC motors are considered more reliable, I question the long-term reliability of the undoubtedly cheap transformers that come with them, especially since you can't protect them from line surges or dips unless your whole house is protected.

I've put up a few fans, and I can wholeheartedly say that the DC fan was a royal PITA. Hunter has made their fans super easy to install, but the no-name DC fan that I bought definitely missed that memo on customer service. The transformer made my life miserable, and it barely fit on the 2nd attempt to put the thing up. It was one of those "Oh, this will take 15 minutes" jobs that turned into a multi-hour task.
