I've been mulling over upgrading our Onkyo RZ900 and been reluctant because the toroidal transformer outputs really good clean sound. Didn't think the RZ50 was an upgrade since it's lower power and then research on the new tech like room correction. So the room correction is the major upgrade from what we got and people seem to look into DIRAC. I think the ones with DIRAC are- Pioneer, Onkyo, Yamaha and Integra. Integra seems to be the best bang for buck or minimal upfront cost to get DIRAC. The only issue with DIRAC is you must pay for the subwoofer or bass correction which is $300. I don't know which receivers (if at all) have that already bundled from the ones I mentioned.
The other room correction that is arguably better than DIRAC is A1EVO which is under Audessey. The ones I know that have it are Marantz and Denon (this receiver). The room correction is only $20 as an app and I think it's best ran on a laptop. Might be inconsistent running it on a phone but don't quote me on that.
A lot of people were looking at the AVR X3800 which is cheaper than this model and it's the same DACs. this 4800 is made in Japan though, while the 3800 is Vietnam/Thailand. The Onkyos have been on sale previously (RZ30 and RZ50). I missed the deal back in spring for the RZ50. Hardly seen the Marantz Cinema 50 or Cinema 30s on sale on here (lower number seems to indicate the higher end model FYI). This 4800 seems to have been around $1299 but will probably never see that price again. The last FP sale was this very same price. I might pull the trigger on this receiver.
But all the info I gave above is from reading two SD threads out of laziness instead of searching and reading around in the AV Forums or other forums. Someone here may need to correct or verify info but I just summarize two previous deal threads after going through multiple pages of the RZ50/30 and X4800 deals.

edit: adding info- This receiver has BOTH Audyssey and DIRAC!

Just curious, would you swap for a different brand/model if you could? I'm in the market, and this is my top choice now, but I'm open to alternatives.

in order to use dirac you will need to spend a bit more. you need to buy at least one license which is $259-358 (or more if using the bass modules $299) plus you need a special calibration mic that is about $100 additional

I'll add clarification & opinion from personal experience with all these units you brought up.1st Yahama has no access to Dirac RCs.2nd Dirac works differently than other RCs.Dirac Live has 3 different RCs. Dirac Live is for loudspeakers, that has a limited & full bandwidth options. They recently streamlined their subwoofer/bass option to just one/unlimited version. Their latest is ART.The specific unit's access determines which availability you get.Yes this(&3800) have access to A1EVO and Dirac! They will even get access to Dirac's latest RC called ART here very soon!None of the other brands will get access to it!Yes A1EVO is definitely a game changer! It provides pretty much both Dirac's DL & DLBC for $20!Keep in mind many of those Pioneer,Onkyo,Integra models don't have access to DLBC.If they do, it an added purchase option of $300. After extensive auditions when upgrading my 4400, it came down to 3800/4800.There was very little sonic performance benefit to the 4800, especially if you use any external amps!If you use or plan to use external power, good luck hearing any difference between the two! If you want all in one box, $1250 for this is hands down the way to go imo!Do it quickly cause this we likely not last long. With current turmoil this price is less likely to come back again for a while if at all imo.

Yeah. I saw that part that you mentioned about the external power in the other thread. that it's better to go for external power than invest on it built into the receiver. Was more interested in longetivity because this model is made in Japan. But already factoring the prices 6 months or a year from now. These units are priced like the last sale and it's from existing stock that were not shipped in. So once these are gone, new stock comes in (or a newer model), then the prices will go up because of the current conditions in regards to tarifss/taxes/inflation. So another sale could end up being $1550 or $1600 for all I know. and the new sale price for the 3800 could end up being $1100.

IMO, when it comes to bang for the buck, nothing gives you less bang than an external amp. If you buy the 4800, there is little reason to go for an external amp unless you have crazy, power hungry speakers or play audio at ear bleeding volumes. I use floor standing speakers in 5.1.4 setup with a X3600h and have never needed more power.

This is how I've been running the RZ900 to get the height channels. Need an external amp. the problem is, it seems to be flawed and not discrete. It sounds like the height channels have the same sound as the rear channels. But yes, running with this 4800 means I won't even need an external amp at all. The room correction would be a huge upgrade since I've had the RZ900 with just AccuEQ.

If you dont have a very large listening area and pretty efficient speakers that Integra 3.4 deal is very attractive at sub $600 if it comes back
5 year warranty and Dirac onboard at no extra charge

If you have a large area, lower efficiency speakers and want a 1 box solution the Onkyo RZ70 is hard to beat for the pricing. I think I saw a deal for $1800 recently
Audioholics says its the best AVR under $3500

I say its the best one under at least $4000 MSRP

Even then
if you want a 1 box solution
You would be hard pressed to ever need more than some of the PAC AVR's provide like the Onkyo RZ70

It benches higher than its published spec( according to Audioholics). It comes very close to the $6500 Denon A1H in power

I have had a dedicated pre/pro connected via XLR's connections to separate amps for years now

But at some point, when I downsize homes, I will probably move to a 1 box solution, and I am pretty sure the Onkyo RZ70 would fit the power needs I have

How would this affect the performance of my system if I swapped this for my Integra 3.4? I have SVS Pinnacles and PB3000s.
