I have these. They are very nice, but the cups are a little shallow and the ANC components in the cups that stick out will poke the ears sometimes

$350 was the release price for the XM4. Accounting for inflation that is now $436.

I just remember getting XM4s for like $160 and the regular price being in the $300 range. This was a few years ago of course.
yeah, I got the same at $160. of course I had to have a friend but then across the country because none were available in my area.

You can get XM4s that are nearly as a good for half this. Nothing wrong with using an older model.

I think it's safe to say most people who don't want to spend $380 on headphones are not doing everything else you've mentioned

I would just buy refurbished from serendipity. I paid $300 and it was in mint condition. I upgraded from xm5 few months back. There's a noticable but subtle improvement in sound quality and noise canceling. 10-15% improvement imo. I do use my headphones daily 2+ hrs, but if you don't use much often I don't think it is worth upgrading from xm5 to xm6. I only upgraded because the battery life on my xm5 is weak. Overall I'm still very happy with my purchase, despite how expensive it was.

Do you feel the XM6 is more any more or less comfortable than the v5? The 5s felt like I had a clamp on my head compared to my Bose.

I think the XM6 has a tighter clamp compared to the XM5. I have a small medium size head. It feels like the cushion is pressing more surface areas on the head than the XM5. It doesn't affect me as much now that I've gotten adjusted to it. It does help grip better onto the head when you exercise on the ground, whereas the XM5s would slip off. I'm 2 months in, and I personally like it. The cushions on the XM6 are nice. I think the XM6 noise canceling and sound is stellar. On the XM5s, you could hear planes and vaccums, but the XM6 would cut so much noise out once you put them on, everything else is mute. It really help when you need to zone in and get some work done.

Everyone's utility function is different, even if it is driven by hype. That said, I wouldn't consider ANCs that help you with on-demand silence and helps with productivity or a more pleasurable flight a hype - if those use cases don't apply to you, this product will always been less appealing, irrespective of price.
You know the headphones are expensive if you have to go into 'utility function'.

Sony XMs are definitely not hype. Sound quality and ANC is one of the best in its price class.
That being said I'd probably get the XM4s or just wait still.

can you elaborate? is $379 expensive for the OP? thinking of purchasing the OP.
Unless you are just looking for the latest and greatest tech you would be getting a better deal with XM4's at $200. XM6 is a bit better with the ANC and has a better mic.
