50% 'bonus' would equate to 33% off, this is better.

There are no surcharges in the app and you don't need to tell your server before you pay with app so they can't really add anything on (you open the app, type in the receipt number and pay)... but there is one quirk in that you can't use gift card balance for tip so you pay tip in-app with credit card (I suppose you could pay that with cash if you have it).
And preselected tip is 22% but you can change it. I order bagels from this place that takes it and you have to tell them to give you the receipt number and its awkward because normally I wouldnt tip but sometimes I give them just a buck (on like $10)

It's been $60 before for $100 but that was last year and prob increased the $5 due to inflation.
Was that on BF?

oh, yeah, I forgot about the restaurants that you order/pay at the register. Agreed that it's awkward but still no additional fees!

I get take out food from a restaurant you order at the counter and have no problem asking for the inkind # and not tipping. I'm glad I apparently don't feel awkwardness Smilie

The business model for inKind is interesting. Restaurants sell inKind the credits at 50 cents on the dollar in increments of $100's of K. They use it like financing to fund upgrades and operations. inKind turns around and sells it directly and through retailers (like Costco) for a markup, incase of this deal, it's 65 cents on the dollar. This yields an immediate 15 cents profit to inKind when you buy the gift card (or whatever the credits are sold for in the app).

Ultimately, the restaurant is happy because they likely got a new customer to try them out, even at a discount. They ultimately profit if you don't use these gift cards because they were paid up front and no one used the credit (similar to how GroupOn worked).

If you have restaurants you want to try, it's a good deal. Do your research and make sure there's ones in the area, and don't dilly dally once the credits are in there. The restaurants who participate come and go, and if they're taking inKind's financing, they're likely in need of cash for one reason or another.

For anyone wondering how this inKind deal works, it's not a typical gift card but a clever financing model. inKind gives a restaurant cash upfront by pre-purchasing its future meals at a massive discount, often for around 50 cents on the dollar (e.g., paying $50,000 for $100,000 in credit). They then sell that $100 of dining credit to us at Costco for $65, making their profit on the 15-cent spread.

Most of the risk to this whole scheme is on the buyer, the restaurants change with some frequency, so make sure you use credits fast. They are also banking you won't use the gift card (like many gift card discounts), which means the restaurant will never have provide a discounted service.

You can explore restaurants on their website without an app

Thanks! That is very helpful. I prefer to tip in cash, so that works for me.

If they're on the list. There should be no problem. Also, all you have to do is get the check number and do everyone through the app. You don't need to tell your server. It's super convenient.
Thanks! They are on the list and the in-laws love the Tam and Lawry's. I generally think they are overpriced, so this can mitigate that a little. Anything to keep them happy!
Is there any surcharge added in the app?
Nope!

One of the better discounts I've seen lately. Just double-check that there are enough restaurants nearby where you can actually use it.

If you're in San Jose Bay Area, LB Steak and Left Bank are accepting these gift cards. Left Bank is offering a $50 off $150 promo via the inKind app. I hope this promo can stack with the gift card!
