My question as well - how does it do with paper? Someone here refuses to use the shredder & burns documents.... just to be a PITA, I amuse myself chasing the embers/charred pages and read the text aloud 🙊

Definitely want something underneath a fire pit to prevent any burn marks. I use 4 of these which do the job:
