I haven't watched it yet, but all of the blu-ray nerds say that The Thing is a spectacularly good 4k transfer.

FYI-My digital code for The Thing didn't work. I ordered another copy and still didn't work. I had to email Universal customer, and they sent me a working code.

Its really nice I got it the other week as my first 4k bluray and the night scenes especially are outstanding. My player lacks dolby vision (ps5 pro + drive) so it wasn't ideal but it still blew me away (ive seen the movie dozens of times)

Add the code to your cart before your sign in and it will still be there. Or you can use a different email address.

I've used all my email addresses already.

I'll try the code trick, if it works TIA.

EDIT: It did. Repped.

It depends how you look at it.Is it a spectacularly good 4k transfer compared to BR version, yes for the most part.Is it one you would reach for to show off a spectacularly good 4k transfer, no not at all.https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Th...ay/272403/

It doesn't look like it includes a DV anyway so you shouldn't have missed anything visually in this case. Personally, I'm tempted for the DTS:X soundtrack.

The Thing, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner (OG) and Jaws have often been ranked as some of the best 4K transfers.

I have a question as a noob to collecting Physical movies: when someone says a movie is a good 4K transfer, does that also apply for the digital streaming version of the same movie? (except for the compression and lower bitrate for streaming?)

2001 Space Odyssey is going for $4.99 digital on Amazon and I got some no-rush credits to burn. Wonder if all the good things I hear about it also applies for the digital UHD purchase.

Yes it does if it's the same transfer.

The shortest/quickest answer is actually two. Yes both are based on the same transfer. Because of the compression & lower bitrate, the quality is not nearly the same. This is especially true on the audio side, the drop in quality is significant!
