Just chatted with a Valvoline Instant Oil Change* customer service rep. and found some creepiness afoot.
THEY SELL YOUR INFO to at least one third party- Carfax- who they will share your vehicle and/or driving data, presumably everywhere they can. And possibly places they can't. Carfax was sued in 2025 (Lucas v. Carfax, Inc), for other releases of personal information in alleged violation of Federal Law, by class members in multiple States.
They, Valvoline Instant Oil Change, allegedly allow an opt out. However, given that they apparently don't ask consent (or at least wait for the victim to request that his/her data be sold to strangers), and require an affirmative opt-out; I am less inclined to believe that they will not collect, save, or share my info. Or yours.
They claim to respect all data removal requests- If you share your info for them to check if they already ganked your data. Of course at that point you're on their list. Whether or not you may have already stumbled into their web in the past, you're there now.
I would then be inclined to think that I might then be sold on a list of names who have requested their previously-held data erased, for privacy marketing.
