To be more clear, it is decent at gaming, just not at the level of the AMD stuff.
If you need something that can do it all and are willing to give up a few FPS, this is a great choice.
To add to this, if you're playing above 1080p you're almost certainly going to be GPU bound - not CPU bound. The 265K will perform fine in the vast majority of games and especially if you're playing at 1440p or 4K.

"But muh benchmark scores won't be as gud wit Intel!"

Compared to what specific AMD CPU?
Well, maybe the 9700X is probably the closest. Slightly more money for slightly better gaming performance but lacking in productivity.
Either would be solid choices for a general use PC that does lots of different things including gaming.
I don't think most people would see much of a difference in performance with either CPU.
I just don't think it's true. I look at different benchmarks, and even 9900X does not beat 265K. Not even mentioning the value at this price.

So I am not going to disagree but every benchmark is different. Overall it does appear that you might see slightly better gaming performance with 9700x but it all depends.
The price is can be the deciding factor for most.
You get much better multicore performance for the 265k, better DDR5 support, better overall for professional use like CAD or graphics design.
The 9900X is also excellent for most things, albeit at a much higher price.

Game codes will be available October 3rd it says. No way to link Intel to EA app so most likely can sell game code later or gift it to someone else.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
