NOTE THESE ARE NOT REGULAR TENNIS RACKETS. They are for "Red Ball Tennis" which is a new game I guess made to compete with Pickleball? They are much smaller rackets and low compression kids balls.

Using red dot balls (large, unpressurized, less bouncy tennis balls) to teach young kids tennis using a small marked off section of a tennis court has been around a while. The development progression is from red ball to orange ball to green ball, then finally regular yellow balls. The newer development is the USTA pushing red ball play on pickleball courts.

I spent a few minutes signing up and trying to claim it but after putting in my date of birth on the claim page, it says "Failed to save age." So deal dead?

Update: I tried from my phone, it had me log in and let me proceed to put in my address. So if the desktop doesn't work right away (after signings up), you may have to relogin again or just try from your phone. Thank you!

i think tennis is losing out to pickleball real bad. pickleball for the win!
Not really, take one look at the US Open crowds. tens of thousands.

Take a look at the crowds for pickleball's pro events, dozens, I tell you, dozens!

Pickleball picks up a LOT of very casual people who give it a try,
play some with their kids and that's about it.

I remember the racketball craze and how they said it would replace tennis.

That said, if you want to play pickleball, good for you.

Tennis may be watched by more, but I think the player base for pickleball is growing more quickly.

The two-week US Open has the highest attendance of any sporting event. I play both and cannot sit through 5 minutes of watching pickleball. However, pickleball is growing much faster than tennis because it's much, much easier.
Anyway, that's why the USTA pushes the red ball, green ball for youths. Regular tennis balls can bounce over a child's head, making it frustrating to learn.

Pickleball was the bridge to tennis for my 13-year-old. He picked it up playing with family members and built up enough confidence to go out for his middle school tennis team. I feel like it's going to be an entry point for a lot of kids into tennis, which is good for both sports. Probably explains "red ball tennis," too - a stop-gap between pickleball and tennis(?)
