There was a similar deal earlier for Samsung phone customers. I got the 1-year free sub for that. Wondering if I get this (I have the offer on my PayPal app), then will it start today, or will it continue for another 1 year after the current free 1 year expires (probably in May 2026). Anyone know?
You can't get a free trial on top of a free trial. You'll have to make a new perplexity account to get another free trial.

My Pro account just expired which I got from Xfinity. Is there any way to get this with a different account?
I'm pretty sure it will work. I signed up a year ago through xfinity, then last month before the offer expired I signed up again for another year through xfinity using a different email address.
Neither email address are linked to my paypal email, so I can probably get another year signing up by Dec 31.Also got a year thru my old A7 samsung tablet.

Can I save it now and activate it near the end of the year? I still have a few months left on a different tool.
Edit: yes, you can. In case anyone else is in same boat.
How? Should I go through PayPal sign up link and claim the offer?

Only new accounts... by mistake tried to apply it to a previous xfinity account and now it's gone from my iOS app

Edit: found it in saved offers on PayPal. I think I just have to find the link through my history and make a new perplexity account

Adding a period to your email, does not work with perplexity for a new account

I picked this up when it is offered for Samsung Galaxy users. I had already been using the free version as my go-to Generative AI on the free tier. Pro is great. Plenty of YouTube videos showing how the pro features work.

- Does this stack with the free 1-year from the Samsung promo? Technically not a paid subscription... ;-)

If it is like the Xfinity deal, there is nothing to cancel, since they never asked for a payment method. The Pro features just end after a year.
Well this is linking your paypal account, so they get a payment method.

I just went through the sign up and says I will be charged $20 a month starting Sept 2 2026.
That's a good point. Xfinity isn't a credit account, so they don't have a payment method (but, being Comcast, they would be happy to find another way to make money off subscribers).

I didn't see anyone mentioning it, so here it is for people comparing it with other AI. Perplexity kind of acts as an aggregator of different models. You can choose which model you want to use. Right now the available models are
ChatGPT-5
Claude 4.0 Sonnet
Sonar Large
Gemini 2.5 Pro
Grok 4
o3
o3-Pro (Max subscribers)
Claude 3.5 Sonnet
Claude 3 Opus
DeepSeek R1
Sonar Huge
GPT-4o
Grok 2
Claude 4.1 Opus Thinking (Max subscribers)
Sonar (in-house model)
R1 1776 (DeepSeek R1-based).
They constantly add new models as well.
If you read r/perplexity_ai (reddit), there are comments that Perplexity is intentionally flipping to less powerful models on many searches. It lets them save on resources but makes the results less in depth.

Yes. After that it will say you have until 12-25 to create the account and link up PayPal.

AMA; I've used perplexity at length since May for my work as a tutor and also for general usage. created several whole documents in it, including whole website# (as an experiment). it's RAG support is inconsistent (you can't expect it to pull info the same way Everytime you make a new prompt, even if it's the same stuff uploaded to the RAG database each time). it really is more like a superpowers version of google; it answers questions thoroughly with many sources. like with any LLM in 2025, it is still prone to hallucinations if you either are too vague with your prompt or have not uploaded anything to your RAG.

I'm still getting used to the spaces feature for when I am working on several projects at the same time. it's honestly just easier to have multiple tabs.

the in-house model is very quick and sufficient for most Google-esque tasks. my work flow usually involves using search for 99% of my task (even when I'm not literally 'searching') and then 1% using the labs feature to make the actual project (document, whatever). beware...Everytime you regenerate or reprompt under labs, it uses one of the 50 credits.

deep research is good for seeing the reasoning and 'thoughts' of the LLM while it finds answers to your question. I find that it is better for making math questions, since that's where the hallucinations are pretty bad (you can't make this shit up ..it will literally say that 2+2=7 if you are careless in your generations)...it is slower though, so if you're just asking for an answer to a simple question, no point in using it.

I re-upped via the comcrap promo at the 11th hour using the same promo code from last summer. you do have to make a new email. however, you can import your persona from your old account (ask the old account for your info, and then paste that info into the new account by saying 'this is my persona. remember this.'

your old account doesn't outright 'die' once it goes to free tier...you just have limited pro searches and you can't use the labs feature. keep it there for posterity sake in case you have any old threads with useful info.

I also run a local model (a jailbroken version of gpt-oss) via lm studio. for additional math questions for the sake of comparison with Perplexity and its various models.

I received one year of Perplexity Pro free 8-10 months ago (?) from a Logitech purchase and was very happy with it for a couple of months until I received an email that I had canceled my Perplexity Pro subscription. I tried everything to get it back and they basically told me to kick rocks. Deleted.

They also have a browser now called Comet. I got Perplexity Pro free from Xfinity, and I have been trying out Comet. So far, I like it.
Two things, I'd avoid for the next while.
  1. Giving an LLM access to a browser with possibly active sessions on bank websites.
  2. Giving an LLM access to aws cli, gcloud.
It's ridiculously easy to convince an LLM to drain your bank account and very hard to protect against it as evidenced by nearly constant jail breaks of gpt, Claude and Gemini models
yes, and I would argue probably for the foreseeable future. However, comet is fantastic and chrome better hurry up.. still enough bugs and low awareness for Google to be 'first'.the best way to thing of AI is a relatively intelligent stranger... then ask yourself if you would let that stranger access certain website.
