AMA; I've used perplexity at length since May for my work as a tutor and also for general usage. created several whole documents in it, including whole website# (as an experiment). it's RAG support is inconsistent (you can't expect it to pull info the same way Everytime you make a new prompt, even if it's the same stuff uploaded to the RAG database each time). it really is more like a superpowers version of google; it answers questions thoroughly with many sources. like with any LLM in 2025, it is still prone to hallucinations if you either are too vague with your prompt or have not uploaded anything to your RAG.

I'm still getting used to the spaces feature for when I am working on several projects at the same time. it's honestly just easier to have multiple tabs.

the in-house model is very quick and sufficient for most Google-esque tasks. my work flow usually involves using search for 99% of my task (even when I'm not literally 'searching') and then 1% using the labs feature to make the actual project (document, whatever). beware...Everytime you regenerate or reprompt under labs, it uses one of the 50 credits.

deep research is good for seeing the reasoning and 'thoughts' of the LLM while it finds answers to your question. I find that it is better for making math questions, since that's where the hallucinations are pretty bad (you can't make this shit up ..it will literally say that 2+2=7 if you are careless in your generations)...it is slower though, so if you're just asking for an answer to a simple question, no point in using it.

I re-upped via the comcrap promo at the 11th hour using the same promo code from last summer. you do have to make a new email. however, you can import your persona from your old account (ask the old account for your info, and then paste that info into the new account by saying 'this is my persona. remember this.'

your old account doesn't outright 'die' once it goes to free tier...you just have limited pro searches and you can't use the labs feature. keep it there for posterity sake in case you have any old threads with useful info.

I also run a local model (a jailbroken version of gpt-oss) via lm studio. for additional math questions for the sake of comparison with Perplexity and its various models.

Two things, I'd avoid for the next while.

Giving an LLM access to a browser with possibly active sessions on bank websites.
Giving an LLM access to aws cli, gcloud.
It's ridiculously easy to convince an LLM to drain your bank account and very hard to protect against it as evidenced by nearly constant jail breaks of gpt, Claude and Gemini models

I asked perplexity if I cancel now would I lose the trial? It said, no! So, I cancelled and can confirm the accuracy of the response.

I saved the offer in the PayPal app but when I went back today to activate it, I don't see the "Link Paypal" option anymore. Anyone know how to fix this?

When I click the link it just asks me what I want to pay with and shows a free 1 year at the bottom. After you click the payment card you want does it start the new account creation after that?

Found this link that makes everything much easier

I access a free Perplexity Pro version through my workplace, and I previously had Gemini Pro Deep Research due to purchasing a 9XL last summer, though it recently expired. For in-depth research, Gemini Pro Deep Research stands out. However, for casual research, Perplexity is preferable as it offers multiple models with a single subscription. That said, I never rely on just one AI. At work, I use GPT-5, and I also have access to Claude 4.1 and Meta AI. No single AI consistently outperforms the others. Since 2022, I've used various AIs, and for important questions, I copy and paste them across major AI platforms to compare their responses. Depending on the question, some AIs perform better than others, but none is definitively superior no matter what the AI benchmarks rank them.

Saved you the click: Even if you try signing up with a new account, but your paypal e-mail addy was the account e-mail of your previous Pro trial, you can't take advantage of this.
Wonder if it'll work if we change the paypal email address... Then again, it's getting pretty annoying just for another year of perplexity pro. It's so much better than Chatgpt though, I've been using it as my primary LLM and it reads responses back to you with that audio button.

But to change the paypal e-mail address, you'd need an additional paypal e-mail account, no? Most people don't have two.

I still couldn't sign up with the link. It says You've previously subscribed to Perplexity Pro through PayPal. This promotion is only valid for first-
time subscribers. But I never sign up with perplexity before with Paypal. Any clue ?

Is there anyway to reset the activation process? I had a year feee through Xfinity that expired so I went to active the PayPal and I was going to use my wife's info, but my last past app auto filled to quick and it put in my info. and being I had it for a year it won't activate.

So I would like to inactivate ur and then activate with wife's info. Is this possible and if so how?

FYI-there agentic AI browser (comet) has some great features and the IOS features for Apple users in very handy. Natural language commands and interaction is impressive. Thanks

Can this be stacked with current Pro plan? Or has to be new account?
