I'd do 2.

anyone have these? do you recommend? this is in my price range though I heard 6e isn't great through walls(?) but open to hearing opinions
They're solid and stable. I have two sets of these at two different locations. They almost never drop and rarely need to be rebooted.
But keep in mind that TPlink has been under scrutiny by the US government for potential cyber security flaws and predatory pricing. So no logins, password, credit card transactions, or bad-mouthing the CCP while online. 😉

Best router i ever bought. i got over 80 devices connected and zero hiccups.

I am way outside my yard and I am still connecting at decent speed.

I didn't have a good experience at allThey'd drop connection 5 times a day n would have to be restarted. Even then, one of the decos would just outright go offline. Returned it to Costco after 5 months of struggling. I'd not recommend it.

I have this setup, it's not bad but I did experience random drop outs. I turned off fast roaming and beam forming, since it's been stable. However read some reviews online some people have had issues with drop outs. Also on a side note, this system heavily relies on the app, you can't do much through the web interface with it so a lot of the settings and monitoring is done by the app which requires a TP-Link account.
I have those dropouts constantly on almost all devices, including those that are stationary and I've turned off mesh for them. I don't know what else to do
You might need to change operation mode to access point if you already have a router.

Thanks! I'm upgrading from my Meshforce M1 I got in 2020. Hope this is worth it!

1800sf block house on one level. Not as frequently (2/3 times a mo) one or two satellites goes offline. Several times a year, all 3 go off. Last time, a month ago, it was a nightmare as after I was forced to try a reset, most devices (around 15 with many smart plugs) needed to be reset. Despite wifi name and password being the same, every device needed to be logged in again). The price here is good. When it works, it's great. All true 6/6e devices (so not Fire Cube 3) pick up the full speeds (just under gigabit speeds). Personally, I think the app falls way short on performance. Nice to be able to use ethernet connections from each device.

I have 5 of these nodes and while it was working great for a bit, it was not able to handle the 250+ devices I had connecting to it.
Did you change the subnet mask and DHCP scope?

The default doesn't have 250+ addresses. That may be why it was having a hard time with that many devices. Or your internet was the issue. If configured properly, it should not be a problem.

sure did. the other issue I had with this is that devices would get disconnected every 2 months or so and would need to be connected manually. some of my devices are attached to my roof (permanent outdoor lights) which cannot be reached to reset connection. this gave up on this device and switched over to Asus rog.

Very fast and solid consumer grade routers. When I had them, you couldn't manually select wireless channels, which was a deal breaker for me however.
