buyer beware of negative reviews. This thing supposedly is so thin that you can see through it.

You can see through all paper. It's just an alcohol swab, not panty liners.

There's no alcohol, these are dry gauze. And you shouldn't be able to see through 8 ply.

No you shouldn't but some of the reviews show what is more like a mesh than gauze.

Former EMT and I've used a lot of 4bys and these, if the reviews are to be believed, look like crap

I'm curious about the 'non-sterile' in the title. Does that mean they were made in a peanut factory or something?

I mean, it's medline so that's hard to believe. This is what the hospital uses.

I'm curious, what do people use a non sterile gauze for? I believe for wound cleaning or dressing one should use sterile ones to prevent infection. So what's the purpose of these?

Just because they haven't been put through sterilization doesn't mean they're dirty. I used these after having a skin cancer carved out of my leg. My doc had me apply a thin layer of an antibiotic cream, then use one of these folded up in 4 to cover the wound and secured it with tape.

I'm a surgeon and have absolutely used these in clinic for wound dressings. They are thin as hell if you unfold them but as packaged, they're just fine as a wound covering, especially when folded in half or in quarters.. Alternatively, we unfold them and use them as "fluffs" for wound packing.

I'm buying a pack of these since I used up the pack I stole from work after got used up on wound care for myself and one of my pets.
