I dont think you can from my understanding, but last time this came up I bought one and just saved the key to my bitwarden entry for my malwarebytes login and then used the key once my sub expired.

When I leave this life, I'm going to picture at the reading of my will my survivors anxiously awaiting to see who will get custody of my lifetime Malwarebytes license. And yes, I know it's a "lifetime" license, but seeing as I bought the license when I already had multiple decades under my belt, a few more decades of service after I depart is "lifetime".

When it comes to security, that's going to be subjective. If you're comfortable enough with not clicking on unfamiliar links, not visiting malicious websites, not doing any weird installs, then you probably won't have any issues. If you have files on your device that are priceless to you or are a very sensitive, then I say spend the money on protecting them. I think it's been demonstrated to death that Mac devices can be compromised almost as easily as Windows these days. Your peace of mind is what will ultimately decide if it's worth the purchase. If I used a Mac like I use my current Windows machine, I probably wouldn't spend the money, but I don't really use my device for anything that compromises it.

Mine expires may 2026. If I understood you correctly I can just save the key and then enter it after my current subscription ends next year and it should work... Hope I'm right.

this is correct. the licenses sit on your account until you actually use it. i bought like 4yrs a while ago as it was $20 for this and nordvpn.

I find it to be effective, but only because it's so popular, which has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that with more customers, the company should hopefully allocate more resources to ensure it's the best protection. But with it being a popular product, that means that people will do what they can to find exploits, as the more targets, the higher chance of finding vulnerabilities in which to exploit. The best way to defend yourself is to learn how to avoid the exploits. You can configure your home internet to only allow devices to connect that are yours, you can block certain ports on your home devices where intrusions are common. Probably the best advice I can give the average user is to NEVER click on links or never manually type in a web site name if you're unsure of the website. I used to work for a bank and the biggest thing we'd find is that unscrupulous actors would buy domain names like Chaes.com BankfoAmerica.com or any other variation of a typo for those banks. From there, they'd make their web page look exactly like a bank webpage and you'd unsuspectingly enter your bank login information and you've instantly provided them with your account information.

You can have access to the best software security out there, but the first line of protection is to learn how people try to compromise your account in the first place. The current one that always makes me laugh is the one where the person claims that they've taken your computer over and were recording what "you were doing" to some "very disturbing websites". Then they claim that if you don't send them some money that they'll send everyone in your contact list the images. I've come close to responding to these threats with, "Wow, you must be a fantastic hacker to have recorded me without me even having a webcam on my computer!" These guys are mostly tools, but if you practice common sense, you shouldn't have to worry too much about them.

For the person asking, I've used Malwarebytes on our Macs for years and like it. I don't use it on smartphones. Just Macs. It runs lean and doesn't install tons of crud and impact system performance like some other well known antivirus/malware packages. And yes, even Macs get malware, viruses, and users who do unsafe things, so it's worth having some kind of protection.
