The Cuisinel 12" skillet was tested by America's Test Kitchen and ranked 6th of 14 cast iron skillets tested (Lodge placed 3-5). "A heavy, classic cast-iron pan with excellent heat retention, it deeply browned steak, fries, and cornbread." The biggest negative they listed was the fairly rough surface that made cleanup more difficult. A few rounds of seasoning will fix that. It looks an awful lot like my daily driver, the 12" Ozark Trail that I bought 10 years ago ($15/set of 3). After seasoning it performs well. I use it on the stovetop, in the oven, on the grill and over a campfire. My vintage Griswold is lighter and thinner, but the heavier Ozark Trail skillet holds heat better. Both practically wipe clean.
TL;DR. Don't disregard the inexpensive Chinese cast iron (they invented it 2000 years ago). The ATK testing certainly isn't exhaustive research, but the bottom line was that all of the pans they tested were more than capable.

Can anyone speak to the quality of these? I'm in the market for a new cast iron and it would be nice to have multiple sizes.

If you are nearby Marshall/ tjmaxx / home goods. Last time I checked the lodge ones should be around: 12in- $20, 10in-$15, 8in- $12, and you can get a universal lid for cheap from a lot of places.

And Walmart ozark trail set is like $30 I think? I have the $25 camping Dutch oven, I think they are alright.

I wouldn't recommend using a high heat pan with a glass lid. I've had a couple bad experiences with the life exploding into my food...

But we wouldn't get that matching silicone pan scraper to boot.

Shouldn't these lids have a small hole to prevent just that? An explosion is extremely dangerous.

I always personally find them not looking good on the cast irons haha! Aldi sells a pair for $2 tho, feels good quality.

If they are Chinese, I would avoid. Chinese cast iron pans are known to have heavy metals in them.

Many are cast from recycled engine blocks etc. There was a report put out a few years ago.

Victoria cast iron is a goto for me. Made from virgin ingots from Europe. Smoother than Lodge pans. They go on sale pretty regularly. Made in Colombia.

Good cast iron should last lifetimes. Why chance it with a brand that is obviously trying to grab your attention with a name that is similar to a more reputable brand, Cuisinart? That alone makes them suspect and if they're willing to do that, what metal are they willing to sell you?
